This site is a place to gather experiences and comments concerning GEAR-UP, the state experiment to see how focused spending can affect student post-high school attendance rates, has given a lot of money to many schools to introduce students to some of the possibilities available to them.
While the goal is worthy, the execution has sometimes been less than helpful. Many recipient districts have felt that the hoop-jumping required is more difficult than the money justifies. We need to let GEAR-UP know the issues we have and work with them in a concerted way to fix these problems.
